Changing Family Dynamics: The Role of Society and Parenting Styles

Course Summary:
In this presentation, we will discuss some of the historical events that have shaped society and subsequently, family structure. We will discuss how parenting styles can influence child behavior and draw from contemporary parenting systems to develop relevant models for communication with the contemporary child patient and his/her family.

Course participants should be able to:

  • Summarize the characteristics of different generational archetypes
  • Describe various parenting styles
  • Apply parenting systems to pediatric behavior guidance
