Radiology and Advanced Diagnostic Tools Rectangular Collimation and Imaging Gently Advocating ALARA

Course Summary:

The three basic principles of radiation protection are justification, optimization and limitation (ALARA or As Low As Reasonably Achievable). This is the basis for all exposures to ionizing radiation. The Image Gently Campaign focuses on the reduction of the use of ionizing radiation in children. Dental diagnostic radiation doses are low, but nevertheless it is our duty to keep the doses as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).

During this lecture you can learn about:

  • Different aspects of dental imaging in children, including image receptors, two and three dimensional imaging techniques and dosimetry data
  • Alternative imaging techniques which can easily be adopted in private practice when, in certain patients, intraoral radiographs are challenging
  • 3D imaging techniques, indications and contraindications
