Dental Team Day – Abnormal Breathing and Orthodontics
Of interest to Dentists, Students & Residents, Dental Auxiliaries and Dental Office Staff
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects millions of people worldwide, and the dentist’s role in the patient’s care ranges from co-diagnosis to co-treatment. This presentation will review the current therapies for OSA and the outcome data on OSA treatments, with an emphasis on pediatric therapies. Every dental practitioner has patients with sleep disordered breathing abnormalities in their practice, diagnosed and undiagnosed. Understanding the deleterious effects of abnormal breathing on the orofacial complex is a vitally important component in achieving successful outcomes. Learning about the differences between normal and abnormal breathing and its deleterious consequences will become commonplace in the dentist’s armamentarium.
